Blog Entry #1

The unbuilt architectural project i have chosen is the LAPD Harbour Police Station, designed by a team from the US. This project is designed to be located in San Pedro, California for the Los Angeles Police Department.

I came across this design on the internet and immediately found it inspirational through the exterior pictures. I found this building to be very aesthetically pleasing, very modern.
From the evening picture, you can see where the lights exerts through the slits and glass. The design is carefully thought out to not just be a plain dull police station, but the architects want to give it a type of liveliness. In the day pictures, natural lighting can get into the station through the numerous numbers of glass windows and doors on the building faces and roof. Allowing natural lighting into a space creates a pleasant environment to be in.

I can pretty much picture the finished design in unreal tournament and being able to go up the stairs in the lobby and experiencing the space with the natural lighting. I would be very interested and fascinated to actually see a police station with this kind of modern design. I'm very inspired at how they can change a place which you would rarely want to go to, into a place where you would actually want to see what it looks like inside.
To model and implement this design into unreal tournament can not be said as easy. The size of the station seems a bit big to model up. But i guess the floor plans and sections is a big help.
