At first, when people say discipline, you may/would or in fact i did think about something along the lines of behaviour. But in fact what we are talking about is a team discipline where each person of the team brings in their own specialty in relation to whatever the team is formed to do.
Not everyone of the team comes from the same background, same path, have had the same amount of training and experience or even the same way of thinking. So heres where team discipline come in and bring each one of the team members skills and thought into completing whatever the team was formed to complete. Theres always ones who shine as a leader, ones who show alot of potential with their work and ones who knows abit of this and that etc. Therefore decision are made easier and work can be arranged easier to people who knows what they are doing and specialise in the area. It would make the teamwork much more easier is distributed according to each person's srea of specialty and the outcome could also be better. A very nice example from this website (http://www.katzenbach.com/Work/Approaches/ApproachInstance/tabid/68/Default.aspx?Entity_ID=171) mentioning the first thing to do when forming a marketing teamis to,
“define the performance challenge or goals of each team and evaluate four tradeoffs:
- Performance and creativity vs. speed and efficiency
- Collective vs. individual work products
- "Real" teams vs. Single leader groups
- Situational vs. ongoing team opportunities”[1]
Discipline in relation to our team project of an unbuilt architecturecan be decribed as similar to any other team out there, just not as broad in skills/experience. Even though we have very similar skills since we're in the same course, theres still ways of distributing work. From the first week our group formed, we have learnt and came to understand what is needed. This project involves a atleast 5 areas/disciplines such as, terrain, sound, textures, internal fixtures, external structures, video, documentation, etc.
