The word “intent” in relation to a team collaboration can be said as the team’s aim or purpose it was formed to do. For example, the intent of our group is to create an unbuilt architecture using our computer skills and have it implemented into the Unreal Engine. According to dictionary.com, the word “intent” means:
“1. Something that is intended; purpose; design; intention.
2. the act or fact of intending, as to do something.
3. Law. The state of a person’s mind that directs his or her actions toward a specific object.
4. meaning or significance.”[2]
Every person has an aim in this world, some may to be rich, some might want to be famous or some may just want a happy normal life etc. This is their intent. On the other hand, a for a team collaboration, intent can be said as the thing that forms the group in the first place. If there was no aim or purpose then there wasn’t a need to have a group at all. So every team is formed for a reason, no matter if it’s for making profits in a business or as said before, working on an assignment for a course for good marks.
Intentions can be seen through body language, you may not notice that your intentions can be seen through the way you move, but if seen carefully, it shows alot. These may be shaking due to being nervous or scared about what you’re about to do, facial expressions such as staring at something you like at the shops and you intend to purchase it or maybe just walking over to something for a closer look which reveals your intention of being interested in that object.
Thinking back towards our area of study, we do alot of drawing, sketches and jotting down notes. We do this in our initial stages of design and just remind us of our ideas we have and can also show what we intended to create in the final finished design. These drawings will show your thoughts really well especially the more stand out or interesting parts of the design but will leave out the finer detail such as the finish material, measurements until later stages.
To sum up the subject of “intent”. It is something which you can see from time to time. In a weird scenario, you may have seen in movies, a person starts spilling petrol all over the place and pulls out a lighter or box of matches, straight away, you can see their intention of starting a fire. That’s what I mean by you can see someone’s intent, for that example, it was an evil intent.
